New Resume Tile icon format doesn't match the other tiles

After Next Gen LE phase 1 was released on 7/24/22, the resume tile looks completely different than all of the other tiles.

Thank you for your feedback on the latest changes to the Resume tile. We do understand your frustration with the changes that are part of a broader change to more "information at your learner's fingertips" rather than the simple click-through tiles that take several clicks to know in what learning opportunity your learner is about to engage.

As you may be aware, our roadmap for 2022 includes more detailed tiles similar to What's Next, Collaboration Activity, and Resume such as Progress visualization that will afford more engagement and streamlined time to learning, and likely the best to pair side by side in one dashboard container (especially if you take advantage of the new Tall, double-height feature). We also think this more detailed double-height tiles will work well with some existing tiles such as News Articles, FAQs that contain lists of learning opportunities. Here are a couple of sample dashboards:

We also hear some perspectives that this would have been better as an all or nothing change; however, our experience has demonstrated that change is best in small increments in order to increase adoption. As you may be aware, we did put the most significant workflow changes for ILCs and Online Courses behind a 90 day toggle for you to experiment with and convey changes to your learners before those become the standard workflow.

In regards to the Resume tile specifically, we are releasing changes with the August release this weekend to address some of the theme color issues to honor both your customized tile colors and parent/inherited themes. We have further changes, coming in a later release, to provide this following hierarchy in terms of the icon use that we hope will address many of your concerns:

    1. Custom Tile Icon

      • Setup > Templates > Edit > Private Dashboard > Content > Resume Tile (add / edit) > Customize Tile Theme > Customize Tile Icon

    2. Course Thumbnail

      • Course (add / edit) > Catalog Visibility (section) > Thumbnail

    3. Default Course Thumbnail

      • Portal Settings > Defaults > Default Course Images > Image (Online Course, ILC, Curriculum)

    4. Library Books Icon

As for the incorrect progress being shown William, might I ask that you put through a support ticket with your specific portal details and courses and we will investigate further? We appreciate it.

Thank you all again for your feedback, and we look forward to continuing this conversation to improve our next generation Learner Experience.

I'm not going to further express how awful the new resume tile is and how bad of a decision it was to change it. I think that's been clearly expressed by many below already.

But I will add that typically... and what would be considered a best practice is finishing an entire theme before its changed, not just a single part of it. And that a change in theme usually occurs after every aspect of that theme has been designed and tested. This avoids the mess that is being experienced now.

What makes this even worse is that this change appears to be VERY incomplete. It sounds like many are experiencing trouble with it and from what I've seen. The template for this tile is still the original template and has no or little effect on the appearance of the resume tile we see now. Whatever changes can be done still make this tile very dislocated in its appearance from the rest.

Furthermore, changes like this impact many of your clients and their end users. Your clients have set up their LMS environments to have a certain look and feel for their end users and by deciding to change their LMS appearance without any client/admin consent is bad practice. It also causes more issues and effort on your clients when our end-users have issues with it as well. We, your clients, did not agree to these visual changes.

Lastly, in regards to themes and visual changes such as this, we should in the very least be given the option to decide which theme, style, or design to use. We should be allowed to switch back to the original style of tile so that our dashboards at least look cohesive and pleasing to the eye for a better end user experience.

This isn't an issue that just looks bad for the end user, or is troublesome for LMS admins, this is also an issue that looks bad on Absorb for the poor management and decision-making surrounding this.

This new resume tile is awful and confusing to the end user. It also skews a square course image into a round one for some unknown reason along with occasionally showing a percentage complete that is not accurate. Should have an option to keep the static tile.

Instructors and Management do not like the new Resume tile. The images get distorted and it is just not as clean looking as the old tile. Feels out of place/wrong.

Agreed that this is a problem. The course image is displayed now and is distorted. Cannot find any info on how to fix this.

Can we please fix the resume button?!

This new look is not consistent with the other tiles and stands out like a sore thumb.

New learners who have no experience with the platform may not even know what that button is supposed to be, as there is just an icon with some books, which does not mean anything.

Please revert back to the original tile, or allow admins to customize it as they see fit, with the option to keep it as it was.

Further, The team tool the inaccurate and nearly useless part of the LE which is the progress wheel and added it to only some of the adaptive options.

For AICC, URL redirects, and some SCORM types, many topics can be housed in one package, meaning the progress wheel goes either 0% or %100.

Again, forcing the option is not a good UX for admins. This really needs to be rolled back and rethought so that at least existing Custom templates aren't disrupted.

Wow team this is a whopper. Agree that it should be rolled back and or admins should at least have the option of using the default.

This update does not help custom templates in the slightest. The behaviour is worse on mobile devices.

What's the point of having the power to, and taking the time to, create my custom template if I have to wake and see changes that are detrimental to the look and functionality of my instance?

agreed with Gregg! There should be an option to only display the icon, and not the course thumbnail. But we can´t decide it on our own...

Agreed! When I went in and saw it, it was horrible! The font was black and I tried to change it myself but was unable to. I think the previous tile icon should at the very least be incorporated into it for consistency with the rest of the tiles.

Agreed....horrible decision. At least give admins the option to use the previous version of the tile.

    I also agree with Donald.

The decision to update the resume tile was a terrible one as it now appears very different from the rest on the dashboard. It was more aesthetically cohesive before, but now it's an eyesore!

Please revert this back or at least provide the option to allow admins to design it in a way that we can choose to revert the style back and to match the rest of the dashboard.

I agree with Donald. I purposely keep my tiles small to achieve a consistent look. The resume tile now looks out of place, displaying only the course thumbnail.

I'm puzzled by the design decision with this one as well as the What's Next tile. They look nothing like the rest, and don't match if I try to add them into the dashboard.

A dashboard with different looking tiles is unsightly. Understand wanting to innovate, but do it all at once or give those of us who want to continue using things like they were - that were working for us - the ability to customize the look so there is some consistency. Also found that when I went in and tried to adjust font colors, it didn't work.
