Enable select another session when marked absent for an ILC session

When offering multiple sessions for an ILC, the user should be able to enroll in another session if marked absent from the session originally enrolled. I noticed that alternate sessions appear for the learner after they have enrolled in a session, with the option to switch, but once the learner is marked absent for the session they registered for by the instructor, they do not have the option to select an alternative. They are just marked as absent for the ILC.

For Learners that are marked absent to an ILC session – shouldn’t they have the option to re-enroll, if we allow re-enrollment in the course build?

If not, how would an absentee get access to the ILC’s remaining sessions again should they need to pick a new session? Aside from an Admin having to do a hard re-enrollment from the backend, this can’t be the only way. When I research this in Absorb Support, it states –

    https://support.absorblms.com/hc/en-us/articles/4552337175699-Instructor-Led-Courses-ILCs-

Note: When a Learner’s attendance is marked as present the LMS will automatically fill in a score of 100%. If the Absent control box is marked, Absorb will instead set the score to 0%. The score can be updated at any time in this Mark Attendance menu. If the Learner is marked as present or absent, the Learner will be marked as Complete for the Session.

Thats why this is so confusing and frustrating - since Learner’s will be marked as complete for absences why are they not given the option to re-enroll, especially when the build has re-enrollment enabled, just as someone who attends since both scenarios result to being marked as "completed".

I know the other suggesting work around is to allow multi-session enrollment - again creating another extra work flow if the users enroll in multiple sessions and only attends one. Requiring an admin to now un-enroll the user out of those additional sessions so it will not stay in-progress and mark completed.

Basically PLEEEEEEASE just allow absences the option to re-enroll if the course is enable to allow re-enrollment. PLEEEEASE.

Allowig re-enrollement could resolve this issue, but in this case students can re-enroll even after being marked as present.

A good idea is to mark the ILC as failed if student was absent. Then allowing re-enrollement after failure will be good solution.

But totally agree with the first idea - allowing students to choose another session after being marked as absent - would be the most logical behavior.

This is a big problem for us as once a learner is Absent we would want them to attend a different session. It seems that the unenroll button also disappears once marked absent, so they can't even unenroll then reenroll.
