In the current version of Absorb, the system allows for the manager of a learner to be included in email communications through a BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) mechanism. While this ensures that managers are kept in the loop regarding the learner’s progress and notifications, it poses significant privacy concerns. The learner is unaware that their manager is being BCC’d, which can lead to transparency issues and a sense of mistrust.
We would like the development of a more granular and flexible system that allows course owners to choose whether to CC (Carbon Copy) or BCC managers in email communications with learners. This feature will enhance transparency, trust, and compliance with privacy standards.
CC/BCC Toggle Option:
Introduce a simple toggle or dropdown menu in the email settings section of the course management interface.
This option should allow course owners to select either:
CC (Carbon Copy) – Managers are visibly included in the email recipients.
BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) – Managers are invisibly included in the email recipients.
Default Setting Configuration:
Allow administrators to set a default option (CC or BCC) for all courses at the organizational level. This ensures consistency across the platform but still allows course owners to make changes as needed.
Learner Notification:
Include an option for course owners to notify learners when their manager is included in the email communication. This could be a simple statement added to the email template, such as "Your manager is also receiving this email."
Enhanced Transparency:
Learners will be aware when their manager is included in communications, fostering a sense of openness and trust within the organization.
Improved Privacy Compliance:
By providing a CC option, Absorb LMS will better align with privacy standards and best practices, ensuring learners are informed about who has access to their communications.
Flexibility for Course Owners:
Course owners can tailor the email settings to the specific needs and policies of their courses and organizations, improving the overall user experience.
Administrative Control:
The ability to set default behaviors at the organizational level ensures consistency while still providing flexibility at the course level.
Implementing a granular option for CC/BCC in email communications within Absorb LMS will address current privacy concerns, enhance transparency, and provide greater flexibility for course management. This improvement aligns with best practices in privacy and user trust, ultimately contributing to a better learning and administrative experience on the platform.
Thank you for considering this feature request. We believe it will greatly benefit all users of Absorb.
