If a course has prerequisite requirements set, those requirements are currently ignored if the course is part of a curriculum or if the student is enrolled by an admin. This causes tremendous problems when trying to use Absorb for a training program that has certifications and/or final exams which may not be entered until the prerequisite courses are completed. The only workaround is to remove the course from any curricula, and have admins check prereq requirements manually and enroll students only if the student knows to email a request, which creates delays for students and adds admin costs.
This used to work OK in previous versions of Absorb. if the current behavior is expected by other Absorb customers, it would be OK to have it optional and default to Off, but the lack of availability of this function has created a lot of admin cost and end-user confusion and dissatisfaction.
Adding that the inability to keep access dates within a curriculum is also a disadvantage of this system.
We really need this feature added for a complex curriculum we are working on. Similarly, allowing nested curriculum would also be helpful. We want to have sections within a curriculum, with each section containing an online course that is a pre-requisite to an ILT. Learners should be able to move freely between sections (so pace-progress is turned OFF), but we want them to have to complete the online course before the ILT in each section (so pre-requisite needs to be active, instead of ignored).
Checking in on this idea, as I commented on it almost a year ago. This is still one of our big issues and have no found any feasible workaround. Please consider having this as an option!
I agree with this. We have a team of four that deal with enrolling our employees into ILC sessions and one major pain point that they deal with is having to manually check prereqs for every user (we have over 20,000 employees). It's a lot of effort and it would make their process efficient if prereqs were not ignored.
It does not make sense for us to remove those courses from curricula, so that is not a viable workaround. I agree, if there was a toggle to turn this on/off, that would be great.
Our previous LMS enforced this rule by prompting the Admin to include prerequisites when adding items to a curriculum. It is bizare that Absorb LMS only enforces this on self-enrollments.
Having an admin enroll a learner in a course where the prerequisite is not completed should not automatically waive the set prerequisite. If needed, there could be an override, should the admin want to, but it is difficult to expect the branch admins to know and apply the prerequisites when they are enrolling their staff.
We have a curriculum that requires you complete the courses in order. It breaks perfectly into 5 chapters, but we have had to create a chapter for each course to implement pace progress. It went from elegant to clunky in one step. If we could toggle on/off prerequisites within a curriculum it would be a possible solution.
Agree. If you set prerequisites at the course level, it seems logical that they would be active when added to a curriculum (or at least be given the choice to "activate" course prerequisites or not. This greatly impacts our ability to provide flexible solutions to our learners and complicates the user experience.
Agree. I just had this occur as well and have had to turn away numberous learners from an ILC because they rules were not enforced via the system. 2 ILCs as part of a curriculum and they could enroll into both of them but they should have been dependent on one another.
