Add Admin Visibility Rules to Groups

This will limit the admin view of groups to only the admins in their parent department and sub departments.

As an enterprise client we need to give access to create and manage groups to our company admins however if you have access to create and manage you see ALL groups for ALL clients and as such can add, edit and delete groups for other clients.

    Hello Admins!

We added this functionality in the May release under the feature name: Scoped Department for Groups, which allows admins to create a Scoped Group.

You may have missed it because the release was sandwiched between the excitement around Admin Impersonation and Lesson Preview - the number 1 and 2 ideas on this portal!

Adding an optional Scoped Department for a Group will ensure that only Admins who manage the selected Department and are a Group Admin will see the Scoped Group in any drop downs where a Group can be selected. Groups without a Scoped Department continue to work as they always have.

You can find the updated knowledge base article including information on Scoped Department for Groups here!

Echoing this would be a critical update for our learn center. All of our managers are set up to be group admins of the employees they manage. We would like them to be able to enroll their employees in courses, but do not want ALL courses in the LMS available for this as some are business specific, have sensitive data, etc. Hard to leverage this feature when there's no limitation to what those group admins can assign.

This is a difficult one to solve since Groups by design don't adhere to Department permissions in order to allow a Group Admin to deliver training across the department tree. A Group restricted by Department visibility would lead to an Admin seeing only a fraction of the Group members in order to assign training!

There is no quick fix to this, but we know that our largest, most complex clients would get a lot of value here so we are looking at ways to solve it. Please stay tuned.

Completely agree! We struggle with this as well and it causes a lot of issues.
