We have been using Absorb for approximately two months now, and while it has proven to be a powerful tool, we find ourselves facing a critical challenge. Our organization is complex, with a multitude of job roles, each comprising various disciplines. Currently, we pull job role information from our HR system through the API. However, this setup does not fully meet our needs, particularly when managing disciplines within job roles.
For instance, we have a large number of Warehouse Operatives, but only a subset of them are certified Fork Lift Truck (FLT) drivers. To address this, we've implemented a toggle in the user profiles labeled "FLT Driver." We then gather users who are both 'Warehouse Operatives' and "FLT Drivers" into a group named "FLT Drivers." This group is then automatically enrolled in a course or curriculum to ensure that these employees are adequately trained.
While the existing solution for adding custom user profile fields is a step in the right direction, we are in dire need of substantial improvements in this area. We propose the following changes to enhance our user management capabilities:
Unlimited Custom Profile Fields: We urge you to allow an unlimited number of Custom Profile Fields, including toggles, text fields, and dropdowns. This flexibility will enable us to capture the diverse data points needed for effective user management.
Multi-Select Dropdowns: Enable Dropdown Custom Profile Fields to be multi-select. For instance, a question like "FLT Requirement" should allow users to select one or more options, such as "Counterbalance" and "Reach Truck." This enhancement will provide us with greater granularity in tracking user attributes.
Training Approval Workflow: Implement a feature that allows colleagues to request new training requirements. Once requested, these requirements should go through an approval process to ensure they align with organizational needs and standards.
Manager-Controlled Disciplines: Enable a user's manager to modify, add, or remove disciplines within an individual's profile. This functionality will streamline the process of ensuring that users are enrolled in the appropriate courses based on their updated roles and responsibilities.
Our primary objective is to eliminate the manual intervention currently required to enroll users in courses when they acquire new disciplines within their roles. These proposed enhancements would not only alleviate our immediate pain points but also significantly improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our training and user management processes within Absorb.
