Our organization often seeks to capture data about specific groups. In order to do this effectively, and in order to import new users into a specific group, our workaround is that we put the group name in the user profile in the "City" field. It makes no sense that a user's department is a searchable category in all reports, but I can only get reports on a specific group from the groups report.
In everything that department is currently searchable by, IMO. We also use groups extensively as much of our course content is designated by length of service at the company, not by department. The most pressing thing is better dashboards/overviews for all group enrollments and completion statuses, not by course or by department. My training specialists are having an extremely hard time with this.

Our company has users in multiple departments, therefore we assigns training by group vs department. We also limit training to individuals within a group. I was surprised that group was not a searchable category. Allowing admin to manage more than one group would also be beneficial for our company.
