I am part of the Customer Experience team at SCIEX, a large company in the Life Sciences industry. We use Camtasia to create customer-facing educational video content to teach users how to use and maintain their SCIEX bioanalytical instruments. Camtasia is a popular software among content creators, but it only exports caption files as SMIs or SRTs, not as VTT files. Since VTT files are the only accepted file format on Absorb, this creates quite a bottleneck for our group. Unfortunately, there is no simple or secure way to convert the SMI or SMI files to a VTT format without paying for another program. Therefore, we have resorted to using a time-consuming and highly error-prone workaround which requires manually editing the content within SRT files and its extension. This involves changing all the closed-caption time notations by replacing their commas to periods, and erasing line numbers. These elements are automatically generated with each line of SRT files, so this manual process ends up being quite time consuming, especially with longer videos. We propose that Absorb accepts SRT and/or SMI files. This process would be completely eliminated, saving us and likely others much time and preventing further opportunities for errors. Thank you for your consideration!
