We need the ability to CHANGE THE DEPARTMENT that is assigned to a dashboard template so that we can make all of the updates to a template using a test department, then make it live to the correct department when it's ready. Currently, to create a new dashboard template, a department cannot be changed, so users see changes the instant something is saved. This creates poor UX and an inability to plan launches in advance.
The fact that you view a "challenge" as something to not pursue is concerning. It's a 100% valid idea pointing out a design flaw that never should have made it into production.
Thank you for your idea. The mixture of department hierarchies with the template ability to inherit or override parent department settings would make swapping out a new department for another a complex challenge that is not likely to be addressed at this time.
I would so say this is in line with the "Allow Department Templates to be Duplicated" idea too b/c it would allow the current state of things to be the same from the duplicate, make/test your updates, then switch the Department when its time. Give that other one a Vote too.
100% this is something I was just about to write up. The whole dashboard template creation is very difficult and not user friendly or adaptable.
