I would love to be able to send SMS notifications to learners. Maybe an optional field for them to enter their phone number and opt into notifications. Many of our learners who have low tech literacy may be more comfortable with text than email.
It would seem that communication to learners, and having the broadest ability to do so, is a key feature of any competitive LMS. Communication in Absorb is only available via email or active login via News (there is no push feature on the app, even). It seems that we are missing the mark on the ability to effectively communicate to our learners unless we look at external solutions not available on Absorb.
This is a solid idea, but not really core LMS functionality so with our roadmap for 2022 focusing on core LMS features and operation we won't be able to dedicate engineering resources to deliver this functionality unless the idea gains enough traction to prioritize it against (currently) more requested features.
In the mean time, there are many providers (all major cellular carriers that I know of in the US and Canada, and many alternative options available via a search for those who don't wish to be tied to a specific carrier) who offer this service - marrying an email address to a phone number for the purposes of delivering an SMS. I can't recommend a specific one as Absorb does not endorse nor have a relationship with any of the providers in this capacity.
Adding on to this, we'd like to see a few features alongside SMS.
Launch training straight from the SMS notification. The LMS can then recognize the user and selectively adapt what components of the training that user needs to complete. ex.) The LMS can auto-assign based on job description and skillset the user has.
Text the number associated with LMS with a keyword, and it gives you training resources or other documentsrelated to that. Ex.) the keyword could be solar panels and you will get a bunch of links for documents related to solar panels and how to sell them etc.
Thank you for your idea! I have brought this to the attention of the product managers for the Admin Experience & Integrations, and they will be able to provide a response.
Further to my note, there does seem to be different threads about push/sms messaging. Do these ever get compiled into a single thread?

This is especially pertinent to industries that employ younger workers, such as restaurants. Staff simply don't use email.
